Free/ Open Source Software has been growing in popularity in the Philippines.  Now, Congressman Teddy Casiño of Bayan Muna, has filed a bill in congress mandating the use of FOSS in the government.  The Philippine Daily Inquirer has published a news article about the bill.

Another good thing about the filing of the bill was that the FOSS community in the Philippines was consulted by the congressman.  Several drafts of the bill were emailed to the Philippine Linux User's Group mailing list for critque.  An intense discussion erupted on the mailing list.  This can only be a good thing as the popularity of FOSS continue to grow in the Philippines.
